With the Google car on the works, Apple is aiming to have the Apple car on the market by 2019. People will probably see the cars being tested around Cupertino, CA along with their logo. The company is on a hiring spree looking for engineers and those who have an automotive background. Most manufacturers have lane assist on their vehicles but not self-driven. Lane assist keeps the cars on their lanes but not necessarily reliable.
If Apple and Google produces a car that can hold its own during lane departure and as well as monitor surroundings to avoid accidents, it will be the beginning of self-driven cars. So far focus is still needed even with all the safety features that we have available today.
